Start Early... Preparing for a move can be a challenge. Starting early and giving yourself plenty of time is a great way to make your move stress free. Use this extra time for getting rid of unwanted stuff, packing up the stuff you're keeping, and getting everything in order (change addresses, bills, cable, etc).
Donate, Sell, Dump... Moving is the perfect time to go through closets, storage, etc and get rid of any unwanted items. You can sell stuff on Craigslist, donate to a non-profit, or just throw it out. If you have any non-perishable foods and/or gently used clothing, we'll collect them and bring to Free The Need, a local non-profit dedicated to distributing surplus food & clothing.
Secure Parking... This is important for those living in San Francisco or other urban areas. Sometimes, city issued parking permits may be necessary to get the truck to a reasonable distance from your building. The farther away we have to park, the longer the move is going to take.
Make Sure You're Packed... Being properly packed is the most important thing in moving. Your movers will be quicker and your stuff will be safer. Check out our Packing Tips.
Pack a Bag... Put everything you're going to need for the next day and a half into a clearly marked bag or box. Toothbrush, medication, important documents, or anything else you'll need quick access to.
Use Blue Tape or Post It notes... If some of your stuff is staying behind, going to storage, or will be traveling in your car, please make sure it is clearly marked. This is also a good idea if your move has multiple drop-offs, so we can pack the truck in the correct sequence.
Disassemble Any Furniture... This is a good tip if you're looking to save some money. We will arrive on moving day with a complete tool set, and are willing and able to disassemble anything. It will definitely save time if you do this yourself.
